There are many ways to get your followers or potential followers to engage with your content. But when you want to start creating unique content, you need to know something about the Instagram posts size.
The ideal Instagram post size
When you start creating content, it could be possible that you need to keep the Instagram post sizes in mind. These post sizes will give your post the best dimension on the grid and make your post the highest quality possible.
There are multiple ways of posting content on Instagram. That’s why we added all the dimensions for every post type in this lesson.
Instagram post size
The first size we will talk about is the basic Instagram post size for a post on the Instagram grid. The size of this post should be between 320px by 320px and 1080px by 1080px, but 1080px by 1080px is the ideal size. Usually, this is the easiest photo to get right. Most editing apps and Instagram itself will crop the size automatically. Also, when using your IOS camera, it will shoot a square picture directly.
Previously the Instagram basic post size was the only option for posting on Instagram, but Instagram now also allows portrait and landscape photos. Never use a tool to crop your image from the internet. The quality of the photo will always go down. It is best to use a professional program or make your content in the correct ratio in front. To do this, we have all the sizes for you down below:
- 1080px by 1080px for Basic Square size
- 1080px by 1350px for Portrait size
- 1080px by 608px for Landscape size
Instagram video post size
Just like the basic photo post on Instagram, you have the option of using a square, horizontal, or landscape size post for your video post on your feed. The ideal dimensions for each are:
- Basic Square size – 1080px by 1080px
- Portrait size – 1080px by 1350px
- Landscape size – 1080px by 608px
Now that you know the Instagram video sizes, you need to understand that there are also some requirements for uploading a video to your Instagram feed. Your Instagram video post must have a maximum of:
- 30 frames per second
- 60 seconds in length
- 4 GB file size
When you want to post a video on Instagram that exceeds these requirements, your video won’t upload. So, keep these numbers in mind when you are planning your video content. When you are busily orientating on which kind of content you will post, keep in mind that there are the minimum and maximum resolutions for each. The maximum and best size is already given on the top of this subject, but the minimum sizes you will find down below:
- Square video minimum size is 600 x 600
- Portrait video minimum size is 600 x 750
- Landscape video minimum size is 600 x 315
Instagram Stories and Reels dimensions
Instagram Stories and reels are another fantastic way of connecting with your followers and growing your engagement. Both of the Instagram features use a size of 1080px by 1920px. When you use this size, the post will fill the entire screen with no borders.
But before you start rushing to make your new Reels, there are some things you need to keep in mind:
- Instagram Reels preview in the feed at another size, cropped from the top and bottom and centered.
- The caption of an Instagram Reel displays in an overlay in the bottom corner of your Reel.
- Instagram Reels can be any length up to 60 seconds.
IGTV Post Dimensions
When Instagram launched Instagram TV, they first only allowed a portrait-only option. However, after a lot of feedback from the users, Instagram allowed using landscape videos on IGTV. For Instagram TV videos, keep in mind that:
- The one-Minute preview option for IGTV will crop the IGTV video to fit the Instagram feed.
- Your IGTV cover photo can be a part of your video or an uploaded photo.
- Your IGTV Cover photo should be 420px by 654px.
